The Project

The main focus and aim of our Project is to get as many people as possible crocheting and knitting for charity, especially for needy and sick babies.  It is not only an act of love but makes a huge difference. There are many millions of babies in need in Southern Africa who live in dire poverty. They lack love, shelter, food, education and warmth.

At the moment we support the hard working nurses and doctors at the Coronation Hospital in Johannesburg via the St Columbus Outreach Programme but would like to support many more wonderful charities.  Your contribution (no matter how great or small) will make a difference so please keep those fingers busy!!  Everything we make will be distributed to the babies who need them most and help them survive.

As a children’s charity Knit One 2 Save One has two goals:

  1. To help needy or sick babies survive by keeping them warm
  2. To raise awareness of this mostly hidden human heartbreak.

By contributing, you not only help save the life of a baby who may otherwise not make it, you help too, to bring the plight of the babies to the attention of whoever you tell or ask to join you in this knitting and crochet project.

Keeping a baby warm makes a difference. We all understand how awful it is to be cold, but many of us have not experienced the misery of being cold all night, every night, hungry, and perhaps sick as well.

Perhaps the most heart-warming outcome of your efforts is that the babies receive a hand-made gift which not only keeps them warm but sends them a message, from the world, that their plight is known.

Our goal for 2010 is keep at least 5000 babies warm. Please help.

As your items arrive at the bins in the churches, they are collected, sorted and delivered to the Coronation Hospital by the volunteers of the Outreach Programme.   Or if they are posted in SA or the UK, they are once again sorted and delivered to St Columbus Church Outreach Programme for onward transmission to the Hospital.

We have provided knitting and crochet tutorials plus free patterns to help you on your way.  However, we would love you to have your favourite patterns which we will add to the website.

We look forward to welcoming you to our warm Knit One 2 Save One community in the ko2so Forum to share our monthly challenges and our friendship and commitment to this shared goal.
